The Probota monastery is located in Probota, near the town Dolhasca in Romania. The Sf Nicolae ("Saint Nicholas") church was included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage in 1993 together with other churches in Moldavia.
Even before 1398, a wooden monastery was built with the name "St. Nicholas of the Au" in Probota. It was probably a foundation Roman I Musat (1391-1394) or Ştefan I. (1394-1399). On the banks of Somuz, Stephan the Great built a stone church with three apses. It is believed that the church was destroyed in a flood. Prince Petru Rares, Stefan the Great had a son, 1530 to build the third monastery in Probota. The interior and exterior paintings, fabricated in 1532-1536, were restored between 1996 and 2000. The monastery wall was built in1550 up to sixteen meters high, complete with turrets and battlements. In the church are 21 valuable grave stones that were created between1464-1640..
