This short two-week trip to the Netherlands took place when the weather was hot and humid in Germany - a perfect time to escape to the cooler windy climate in northwestern Europe. My Dutch friend, Robert, explained to me that Holland (hollow land) is the land below sea level and that Netherland (lower land) is the land above sea level. Makes sense, doesn’t it? The cycling tour started in Emmerich on the Rhine River, and continued to Arnhem, the University City of Utrecht, Amsterdam, the Island of Texel, Haarlem, The Hague, through the industrial oil import/export center Europoort, to the Sealand delta city of Middelburg, Breda, Tilburg, Nijmegen, and back to Emmerich. Diese kurze 2wöchige Radtour nach Holland fand während einer sehr heißen schwülen Zeit in Deutschland statt - eine perfekte Zeit um in das kühlere Klima in Nordwest-Europa zu fliehen. Mein holländischer Freund, Robert, erklärte mir dass Holland (hohles Land) ist unter dem Meeresspiegel und dass Niederlande (das niedrige Land) über dem Meeresspiegel liegt. Mach doch Sinn, oder? Unser Radtour fing in Emmerich am Rhein an, und ging weiter nach Arnhem, die Unistadt Utrecht, Amsterdam, die Insel Texel, Haarlem, Den Haag, durch das Industriezentrum Europoort, nach Seelands Middelburg, Breda, Tilburg, Nijmegen, und wieder nach Emmerich. Man muss ziemlich weit nach unten scrollen, um alles zu sehen. Viel Spaß beim Schauen und genieße die kurze Tour nach Holland!

After a quick train ride from Frankfurt to Emmerich on the Dutch border, Rudi, my wife’s cousin, and I began our trip here on the Rhine River. 

Nach einer kurzen Zugfahrt von Frankfurt nach Emmerich an der niederländisch Grenze, waren Rudi, der Cousin meiner Frau, und ich unterwegs hier am Rhein.
