Lake Haven Campsite South of Indianapolis

The Indianapolis skyline is visible in the distance.

The Soldiers and Sailors monument in the center of Indy was under renovation.

Officially known as “Old National Centre” and originally known as the
Murat Temple, this shrine is an entertainment venue in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Indianapolis Canal Walk adds a nice touch to the city.

Chris and I stopped for a “not so small” sandwich the next morning before heading north on one of the longest days of our cycling trip. 

With 30 kilometers of cycling trails ahead of us, we decided to do some geocaching.

Hershell was quite proud of the new room in his home that was just finished.

It was a long hot day that lay before us, but we finally found a
place to sleep near Lafayette, Indiana.

Some parts of Northern Indiana look more like Holland.

When the rain came, the sewers were filled to overflowing. Click it.

Many of the employees, jumped in their cars and headed home away from the storm.

After the storm, the lawns and fields were all flooded.

Lake Haven had the cleanest sanitary facilities we saw on our trip.

Suddenly the enormoous Lucas Oil Stadium - big enough for a football game.

We cycled the Cultural Bicycle Trail through the center of Indianapolis - very nice.

The war memorial appeared as an ominous structure with little function.

Chris asked “What value is it if you can’t use it for something?”
After a bit of research, I learned that many events take place here.

The Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis, Indiana, is very impressive.  Click it! 

On the canal, we were surprised to see a Venetian Gondola and gondolier, dressed in the traditional boatman’s clothing in Venice, Italy, on of my favorite cities.

Hanging on cables, there were necessary repair tools for bikers along the trail.

This building complex north of the city amazed us because of its complexity.

There’s supposed to be a “Railroad Tie Graveyard” here somewhere.

Found it!!! My 2000th Geocache

We weren’t alone! For the first time in 3 weeks, a group of bikers approached us.

60 miles further north, we stopped at my Aunt and Uncle’s house in Kokomo again. Another day of rest to do maintenance on the bikes

Chris accompanied my Uncle Jack on a demolition job for one day.

I drove to my uncle Hershell’s house for one last visit before cycling to Chicago.

After loading his bike, a Steppenwolf Transterra, Chris was ready to cycle.

Our visit to Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, revealed some possibilities for Christian to finance his Master’s Degree in the USA.

When we saw this sky ahead, I told Chris we have to find shelter quickly.
I was born and raised in Indiana, so I knew what was coming.

At a Dow Chemical farm, we found shelter.

When there is water in the fields and the sun comes out, the water is heated up and the crops planted there die. This rain was quite a serious thing for many farmers.

Crossing the state border to Indiana into Illinois - only 74 km to Chicago.

My first time ever in Manhattan  :-)

Finally in Chicago, we had two more days before the plane took off. So we decided to go to the Museum of Science and Industry.

Cool test! - the person who is able to relax his body the most is able to move the ball away. That is, the ball moves toward the greatest brain activity.
